Can I “book” a kitten?
We avoid
having a waiting list as such, for three main reasons. Firstly, we don’t
want you to feel “locked in” to buy from us if your circumstances
change. Secondly, we don’t want you to have to wait “forever” for your
adoptee. And finally, it’s not possible for us to “place an order” with
our breeding mums! Your expectations could be dashed if mum failed to
produce your kitten of choice. And sadly, like all breeders, we do
sometimes lose kittens to “nature’s way”.
So how do I purchase?
Just save this page to
your Favourites file and check regularly to see what kittens have
arrived! After each delivery we place photos of the babies on this page
so you can watch them grow during those early few weeks of life. During
this time if you are interested in any of the kittens, we certainly
encourage you to correspond and express your interest with us.
When the kitties reach 2 weeks of age, they become available and are
then sold on a “first come, first choice” basis (based on your
correspondence with us since the kitten's birth) and deposits are then
taken. By this age we can confirm gender, pattern, markings
and colours, however, depending on the colour we may need to wait
a further week or two to be certain.
At this point we will ask you to read and agree to the terms of our
kitten contract and health guarantee. We will continue to answer any
questions you may have, and will send you our “Preparing For Your New
Kitten” page. We will then require a non-refundable $200 holding
deposit. (NB: If using PayPal, there will be an extra 4% for
PayPal levy, applied to invoice.)
Of course, the deposit amount will be deducted from the total
purchase price! We will email you directly with weekly progress updates
together with pictures so that you too can share in the enjoyment of
watching your kitten's growth.
Please understand that sometimes more than one enquirer has expressed
a desire to purchase a particular kitten. Therefore, to be as fair as we
can be, we have opted for the system described above.
Feel free to email at any time to ask about upcoming litters, or more
specific details of the babies currently shown. We try to check our
emails at least once every day.
Our kittens will only be sold to loving home's that can offer the
love and attention they truly deserve, therefore, we do reserve the
right to withhold selling to anyone who we deem unsuitable.
How do I see and pick up a kitten?
Due to
our geographic isolation, it may be difficult for you to visit us,
however you are most welcome by arrangement. We specialise in
transporting kittens throughout Australia at no extra charge. We are
very experienced in this and make the process hassle-free for you and
minimum-stress for your kitten.
What age are kittens when they leave MoonShadow?
We allow our kittens to go to their new homes between 10
and 14 weeks of age depending on their maturity, condition and health.
By this age, the kittens will be eating and drinking on their own and
will have been trained to use a litter tray. The kittens are regularly
handled by us and our children, so they are well socialised by the time
they leave us.
Can I be sure my kitten will be healthy?
All
kittens are thoroughly checked over by our vet (this does not include
x-rays, ultrasounds or blood tests), however, lilac and chocolate
ragdolls are DNA tested for confirmation. All kittens are worm and flea
free, vaccinated and have a microchip implant, so that any vet anywhere
can read the implant electronically to certify that the kitten is yours.
We also issue a re-assuring health contract/guarantee.
What about de-sexing?
Yes on the advice of
several vets, we de-sex out "pet" kittens before they go (around
9-10 weeks depending on their weight and maturity.) We consider that
overall it is much less traumatic for them while they are young (for
males it is a very simple procedure) and when they can quickly recover
in their own environment before heading into the wide world. We will
ensure that your kitten is vibrant and healthy and you have our
guarantee. Your kitten's pedigree/registration papers will be forwarded
when the ownership details have been processed.
How will my kitten arrive?
Our clients are
located all over Australia! With our years of experience delivering to
regional as well as big city airports throughout Australia, you can be
confident that your kitten will be well looked after. We love our
kittens as much as you will, so we use the services of a premier
specialised pet transport company to ensure that only caring, specially
trained personnel are involved. We pre-arrange with you a suitable day
of arrival (week days only). The transport company is given your contact
number to ensure that all runs smoothly. That’s all there is to it! We
can personally deliver to you in Melbourne and surrounding areas, and
there is no charge for this service.
